Dracula gets a musical makeover

By Attitude Magazine

One of the hits of the Edinburgh Fringe transfers to London for three weeks only, kicking off tonight at the Soho Theatre.

Dracula! (Mr Swallow – The Musical) is an all-singing, all-dancing new version of the much loved horror classic. Camp much?

Mr Swallow, Nick Mohammed’s alter-ego maniac-monster comedy creation, has found himself in control of a company of three brilliant musical-theatre actors, and a live five piece band. Fantastic original musical compositions and stunning design complete the beautiful production that Swallow cannot help but completely undermine with a succession of mad interruptions; tearing down the fourth wall and bringing the entire show crashing down with it.

There’s plenty of poetic license in play as Mr Swallow tramples over Bram Stoker’s Gothic legacy with one of the most farcical musicals ever staged: it’s fantastically funny and just a bit of an anarchic shambles (in the best possible way, of course).

Dracula the Musical runs at Soho Theatre until February 28. Tickets and info here.
