Donald Glover backs Lando Calrissian’s pansexuality

The iconic Star Wars character was revealed to be pansexual by writer Jonathan Kasdan

Donald Glover has backed Lando Calrissian’s pansexuality.

The classic Star Wars character, who first appeared in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back played Billy Dee Williams, appears in a younger guise in the Solo: A Star Wars Story spin-off movie, set to hit UK cinemas this week.

Recently, co-writer Jonathan Kasdan has confirmed that Lando is pansexual and Glover – who plays him in the upcoming spin-off – has backed the decision and claimed there are “so many things” to have sex with in space.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “How can you not be pansexual in space? There are so many things to have sex with.

“I didn’t think that was that weird. Yeah, he’s coming on to everybody. I feel like if you’re in space it’s kind of like, the door is open!

“It’s like, [not] only guys or girls – no, it’s anything. This thing is literally a blob. Are you a man or a woman? Like, who cares? Have a good time out here.”

Lando isn’t the first canonically LGBT+ character to appear in the Star Wars movies – that title goes to Laura Dern’s General Amalyn Holdo in last year’s The Last Jedi – but the Disney series is yet to explicitly portray their sexuality onscreen; something that needs to be rectified post-haste.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits cinemas on Friday 25 May. Check out the trailer below:
