Rufus Wainwright has released for the politically-charged video for new single ‘Sword of Damocles’, starring Darren Criss.

Wainwright, 45, has enlisted former Glee star for the Trump-bashing visual, which sees Criss play as a jealous man who takes power simply to watch his kingdom rot.

The artfully-shot new video, which features costumes from Vivienne Westwood, concludes with a message encouraging Americans to vote in next Tusday’s US mid-term elections (6 November).

“This is my artistic response to what is currently transpiring within the American government and how its collapse is affecting every aspect of existence for us all,” Wainwright says.

“With the Midterm Elections around the corner, it’s important for everyone to take a stand and contribute in some way, whether it’s bringing awareness to issues in your community, protesting/demonstrating, watching the news to formulate your own opinions, creating, yelling – it’s all hands on deck. VOTE.”

A portion of the proceeds from ‘Sword of Damocles’, which Wainwright premiered on The Late Late Show with James Corden last week, will got to Swing Left, a pro-Demorcat political group founded following Trump’s election in 2016.
