Curtis recreates mother’s iconic ‘Psycho’ scene for ‘Scream Queens’

By Will Stroude

As if Jamie Lee Curtis’s casting in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming horror-comedy series Scream Queens wasn’t self-referential enough already, the pair are ensuring that the horror genre eats itself entirely with a planned tribute to Curtis’s own ‘scream queen’ mother, the late Janet Leigh.

Leigh – who passed away in 2004 aged 77 – starred in arguably the most iconic horror scene of all time as she met her demise at the hands of Norman Bates in 1960’s Alfred Hitchcock slasher Pyscho. Jamie – who previously admitted that she avoided taking showers as a youngster after being traumatised by the scene – has revealed that she will recreate it for a special episode of the new show, which centres around a college campus that is rocked by a series of murders.

The 56-year-old horror legend teased the news in style yesterday (September 15), tweeting a picture of herself re-enacting her mother’s iconic pose with the caption: “Recreated Mom’s PSYCHO shower scene 4 a special ep of @ScreamQueens.”

Curtis will star in Scream Queens as the aforementioned college’s dean, alongside the likes of Lea Michele, Emma Roberts, Abigail Breslin and special guest stars Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas. The eagerly anticipated new series is set to kick off on September 22 on Fox – and after seeing this latest tease, our anticipation levels are reaching fever pitch…
