Cult US show Heroes is to be revived by NBC for a 2015 miniseries called Heroes Reborn.

The show’s creator Tim Kring will return as executive producer for 13 new episodes of the superhero drama, whose original stars included Milo Ventimiglia (pictured right), Zachary Quinto, Hayden Panettiere and Kristen Bell.

NBC’s Jennifer Salke said in a statement: “The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another instalment.”

Salke then teased: “Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

quintoHeroes originally aired for 77 episodes between 2006 and 2010 and helped to launch the career of Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto, who appeared as the show’s main villain, Sylar.

Other actors to have appeared in Heroes during its original four-season run on NBC included Christopher Eccleston, Ali Larter and Adrian Pasdar.
