Ofcom have confirmed that they will not be investigating Coronation Street for its recent gay kiss scene.

It was reported yesterday (February 27) that the watchdog would investigate the almost 100 complaints it received over the kiss between Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) and Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou).

However, Ofcom have now released the following statement to the Daily Mail: “Ofcom can confirm that it is not investigating the scene in Coronation Street as it was not in breach of generally accepted standards.

“Our rules do not discriminate between scenes involving opposite sex and same sex couples.”

In scenes aired last week, the actors were seen kissing shirtless on the Grimshaw’s sofa, before going upstairs to the bedroom.

EastEnders was the subject of similar complaints in January after airing a kiss between actors Gary Lucy and Sam Strike.

Coronation Street‘s Charlie Condou discussed his problem with the term ‘openly gay’ in his first Attitude column this week – read here.
