Comedian Joe Lycett: ‘Being bisexual has its own challenges’

By Will Stroude

In the new issue of Attitude, we chat to rising comedian Joe Lycett about dating, his sexuality, and his top 10 placing in this year’s Attitude HOT 100.

The 26 year-old, who is a regular face on shows like Live at the Apollo8 Out of 10 Cats and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, admits that being bisexual “presents its own challenges”, but that he’s finally feeling ready to settle down.

Discussing his sexuality, which is often a staple of his stand-up shows, Joe says: “I don’t know if it’s easier [than being gay]. Being bisexual presents its own challenges. There isn’t a solid identity in being bisexual.

“You can’t just say to someone’s auntie, ‘Oh he’s bisexual’. People don’t have those references, so there’s no box to put you in. So they don’t know what it means and they get scared. They think you’re into weird stuff or you’re a whore and up to all sorts.

“But it just means you fancy people of all genders, nothing more nothing less. ”

Asked what he looks for in a partner, he adds. “I’ve tried Tinder. I’m not a very sexual kind of person. I’m emotional. Yes, sometimes we all want to go out and fuck someone, but most of the time we want a little cuddle with someone.

“A snack den. Someone to lie there with eating chocolate. That’s the dream.”

Elsewhere in this month’s issue, we meets Magic Mike stars Channing Tatum and Matt Bomer and take a look at dad bods, real bods and queer bods as we celebrate all things sexy.

That’s on top of all the usual real-life stories, fashion pages, and our brand new column, ‘Confessions of a Compulsive Overeater’, which takes a hard look at one man’s struggle with eating disorders and his sexuality.
