Britney Spears is honoured in a new play opening in London later this month.

The lead character in Positive is a huge Britney fan, meaning there are references to the Toxic singer throughout the performance.

Positive will run at the Waterloo East Theatre from May 13 to June 1, following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe last year.

The comic drama follows Benji, who is trying to battle through his own anxiety and other people’s stigma in an attempt to revive his love life, social life and sex life one year after testing positive for HIV.

Playwright Shaun Kitchener said: “Britney isn’t really integral to the plot, but Benji is a massive fan of hers – and it’s been really fun throwing in various references as a way of paying tribute!”

“I think the story we’re trying to tell is as relevant as ever. Despite the subject matter, it’s not really about ‘illness’ – it’s ultimately a warm and hopefully funny love story; one that will ideally challenge preconceptions and be hugely entertaining to watch,” he added.

Tickets for Positive are available now from the Waterloo East Theatre website.
