Aretha mashes up ‘I Will Survive’, Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor’

By Will Stroude

Aretha Franklin has unveiled another ludicrously fierce cut from her forthcoming album of classic diva covers – and it’s a mash-up of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive and Destiny’s Child’s Survivor.

Yes you heard that right, and you can give the results of I Will Survive (The Aretha Version) a listen below:

The cover is taken from Franklin’s forthcoming album Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics, which finds the the Queen of Soul a covering classic songs from female artists including Chaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman and Barbra Streisand’s People.

The 72-year-old diva has worked with R&B producer Babyface on the album, as well as legendary music boss Clive Davis. Her last album, Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love, was released in 2011.

Franklin debuted another song from the album – a cover of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep – last month (September) – click here to give it a listen.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Franklin made waves online when a GIF in which she appeared to snub fellow diva Patti Labelle went viral – watch it here.
