Ant and Dec: ‘People think we’re a gay couple’

By Sam Rigby

Ant-and-Dec

Ant and Dec have revealed that a lot of people are surprised when they discover that they aren’t a gay couple.

The presenting duo – who front I’m A Celebrity, Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway – said they have been called a “pair of poofs” before.

They told The Sun: “We used to get called it an awful lot, usually by men of our own age. They’d go, ‘Oi! You pair of poofs!'”

Ant added: “Paul Burrell had a go at me once because I’d laughed in his face on I’m A Celeb.

“I said, ‘Paul I couldn’t help it. But that’s why you stayed in so long. My wife voted for you.’

“And he went, ‘Your wife? I always thought you were gay!'”

The pair have been named Britain’s favourite entertainment presenters at the National Television Awards for the last 13 years running.

They return to ITV for a new series of Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.
