Two years after series creator Ryan Murphy revealed that every season American Horror Story is tied together in strange and complex ways, it looks like we may now finally be finding out just how the pieces of this disturbing jigsaw puzzle are going to link together.

Teasing what’s to come during American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare‘s run, Murphy tells the new issue of Entertainment Weekly that lots of familiar faces from earlier season are set to make reappearances.

“This is the year you see the greatest hits in terms of actors of American Horror Story,” he says, before adding that “many, many, many [characters] that you have not seen in years that you have wanted to see” will be back on screen.

Fans of season 4’s Freak Show are in luck too, as My Roanoke Nightmare is set to feature one of that series’ most terrifying villains, psychotic serial killer Dandy Mott (Finn Wittrock).

Teasing the crossever, Murphy says: “We explain how the Motts began which is funny”.

While the latest season of American Horror Story has stripped back some of the show’s signature camp in favour of more traditional scares, Murphy also reveals that things might not quite be as they seem…

“You’ll see starting in episode 6, the show has a huge turn and the thing that you think you’re watching is not what you’re watching”, he says.

You can read the full interview with Ryan Murphy and find out more about  the new season of American Horror Story in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on newsstands Friday and available to buy here now.
