A Britney Spears musical is on the way.

According to the New York Times, the musical called Once Upon a One More Time will feature songs from the pop princess’ increasing number of hit singles and will explore ‘an alternative arc for some classic fairy tale princesses’.

The play synopsis reads: “In the show, a fortnightly book club whose members include Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty, is working its way through a collection of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales.

“But when the women wish for new reading material, a fairy godmother brings them Betty Freidan’s feminist classic, ‘The Feminine Mystique’, and their lives are altered in unexpected ways.”

Kristin Hanggi is set to direct the production which is based on the book by Jon Hartmere who said: “These women have been in this hermetically sealed world, and then they start to get deeper into modern ideas – second and third-wave feminism – and also explore how stories are passed down to us, and where we get our norms form.

“But it’s also superfun and funny.”

The show has already had several readings with the singer attending one of them and it’s reported it features 23 of her songs including her hits.

How the musical will include Britney’s songs will just have to wait and see when the show starts production this autumn in Chicago.

Previews will start on October 29 and open on November 13, and will run until December 1 before looking to transfer to Broadway.
