Britney Spears has touched on her relationship with the LGBTQ community in her new memoir, The Woman In Me.

The memoir was released on Tuesday (24 October) and fans have already been scrambling to get through the volume.

One account claiming to have already finished the book and to be listening to the audiobook (narrated by Michelle Williams) highlighted one section where the ‘Toxic’ singer addresses her connection to the gay community.

“For me, it’s all about love – unconditional love,” Britney wrote. “My gay friends were always protective of me, maybe because they knew that I was kind of innocent.

“Not dumb, but way too kind. And I think a lot of the gay guys around me took on a supportive role,” she went on to say.

The Metro also reported the same passage.

The Woman In Me comes after the 2021 termination of the conservatorship that had controlled most aspects of Britney’s life since 2008.

When the book was announced in July, Gallery Books described it as, “A brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.”

It also said the book was “Written with remarkable candor and humor,” by Britney. Heralded as “groundbreaking” the book is also framed as illuminating “the enduring power of music and love – and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.”

So far reports on the book’s contents include passages about former partners as well as Britney and her Instagram account.

The Woman In Me is available now.
