Taron Egerton pulls out of Cock after testing positive for Covid

The Welsh actor is expected to return to the West End production next week.

Taron Egerton has had to temporarily drop out of Cock after testing positive for Covid-19.

According to the show’s social media feeds, the 32-year-old who stars alongside Bridgerton‘s Jonathan Bailey in the West End revival, is expected “to return to the show next week”.

Previously, the Rocketman actor fainted on stage during the opening preview and had to be replaced by his understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson, for the last 15 minutes of the performance. Taron returned for subsequent performances. 

“We expect Taron to return to the show next week”

A post shared to the play’s social accounts on 23 March says: “Taron Egerton has unfortunately tested positive for Covid.”

“In accordance with the production’s health & safety protocols, he will now isolate and we expect Taron to return to the show next week. The character of M will be played by Joel Harper-Jackson,” it continued.

People sent the Welsh actor their best wishes and a speedy recovery. 

Cock sees Egerton and Bailey star a couple whose relationship comes under strain when one of them begins a relationship with a woman (Jade Anouka). Phil Daniels rounds out the cast.

Written by Mike Bartlett, Cock was first staged in 2009 with Fleabag‘s Andrew Scott and This Is Going To Hurt‘s Ben Whishaw in the lead roles.
