Culture, fashion, film, location, season and era can all come into play when you’re deciding how to style or theme your wedding. But what are the hot wedding trends for 2014? We ask some of the UK’s leading events stylists to shed some light…

Colour:
A theme can be as simple as basing your wedding around one colour: “Radiant Orchid is pantone of the year and is already being chosen for colour palettes. Fresh white and green, particularly in flowers, will feature, as a nod to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.” – Zoe McKeown, The Wedding Planning Academy.

Bringing the outside ‘in’ is something events stylists are seeing more of, and foliage in particular is ‘huge’ this year. “Herbs, ferns and olive branches are top of the floral wish list, as well as garlands and wreaths for a more natural, yet elegant look.” – Jessie Thomson, Event Planner and Stylist

Metallics:
“Metallics are everywhere this year. Whether it’s antique silver, gold or copper – from the shoes, to the cake and the stationery – it’s something you can pick up on throughout.” – Jessie Thomson, Event Planner and Stylist.

“Great finishing touches include silver and gold mercury glass centrepieces and candle holders.” – Amanda Plester, Ava Event Styling

Village fête:

White on white:
“With a nod to the incurable romantic, white on white will feature throughout 2014. Layer numerous textures and finishes in shades of brilliant white through to antique ivory to create a whimsical, ethereal wedding.” – Amanda Plester, Ava Event Styling

Art Deco:
Gatsby-inspired weddings continue to be popular with geometric patterns becoming ever bolder. “It’s about classic vintage glamour and cocktails. A silver, gold and black colour palette is order of the day, with angular detailing and wedding stationery incorporating iconic typography.” – Amanda Plester, Ava Event Styling

Outlandish:
Recently vintage and rustic style weddings have been in recently, but more outlandish themes remain popular: “Quirky weddings are still a big trend. From photo booths shaped like London cabs to circus themes, fairground rides and a bar on a double decker bus, thinking outside the box can add that extra playful sense of adventure.” – Alex Boucher, The Great British Wedding

Rainbow:
While sticking to one or two colours has often been an easy benchmark, a big trend to emerge this year is the rainbow: “From red through to violet, this look is perfect for fun-filled, relaxed weddings and gives you scope to incorporate all of your favourite flowers.” Amanda Plester, Ava Event Styling
