The Men of the Met Ball, in association with StylePilot

By Joseph Kocharian

Men of Met Ball

The Met Gala style stakes always throw up a lot of buzz, but it’s mainly from the girls (let’s not talk about that Solange, Beyonce and Jay-Z moment in the lift from last year, ok?) The theme this year was ‘China: through the looking glass’, and while there were many hits and misses, here are a few we liked from the boys, namely Andy Cohen, Ansel Elgort, and the ever-polarising Justin Bieber.

Ansel Elgort from The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent series went for classic black tie. What makes his look stand out is the subtle iridescence of the jacket though: a little sheen can elevate your formal look, whether you go full-on jacket or just the lapel.

Andy Cohen meanwhile went for navy number with a red corsage. Navy is still incredibly popular for formal wear and a nice subtle break from monochrome – nuances and hints are often a more a classy sartorial statement than going for bright and bold.

Finally, today’s bonus look comes courtesy of Justin Bieber! This divided a lot of the fashion critics, but we say if you want to channel your inner Elton John and go for an ostentatious blazer, you should. Gold and brocade blazers are actually incredibly popular on the runway of menswear, and they always say, it’s only a matter of time before it trickles down to the high street.
