Stop comparing being conservative to coming out, you fucking morons

Megan was inspired by Margaret Thatcher’s biography
At last year’s Republican National Convention, Caitlyn Jenner said “It was easy to come out as trans. It was hard to come out as Republican.”
Tradition is at the forefront of conservatism. The main tenants of the belief system revolve around treading familiar ground.
Chadwick Moore, who last week told Fox News that gay people only care about pop music and going to the beach, wrote an editorial in which he ‘came out’ as a Republican. A cynical person might argue that Chadwick saw an opening for a gay man who says deplorable, inflammatory things for attention since the last one got himself into trouble for embracing paedophilia.
Not all conservatives are anti-LGBT+, of course. But conservative political parties fought against. In Northern Ireland, the DUP are at the forefront of blocking marriage rights for same-sex couples. Party representatives have made shocking statements about LGBT+ people throughout the decades. In the UK, the Conservative party introduced Section 28, which told a generation of gay Britons that they were less than.
To compare being conservative and being LGBT+ is dangerous and insulting. One is an inborn identity that has been looked down upon, the other is a political ideology one chooses to identify with. The epidemic of LGBT+ youth homelessness was touched on earlier. Why is this the case? Because many are thrown out of their homes for being queer. These are the real consequences of coming out for young LGBT+ people across the UK. What are the consequences of ‘coming out’ as a conservative? Your friends will make fun of you for it.
Why do gay people choose to be conservative? Some are enticed by a charismatic party leader who promises a new era of acceptance, as is the case with many gay people who supported the Conservatives under David Cameron. Sure, equal marriage was introduced while the party were in power, but let’s look a little wider. Sex and Relationship Education that recognises LGBT+ people still isn’t compulsary in UK schools. LGBT+ people make up a quarter of all homeless
As Home Secretary, Theresa May oversaw the detention and humiliation of LGBT+ asylum seekers, who had to ‘prove’ their sexuality or gender identity.
Maybe they just want to please their fathers. Chadwick gushes about how he is finally close with his dad now that he’s Republican. “He’s a Republican and a farmer in Iowa, and for years we just didn’t have very much to talk about. But after Trump’s inauguration, we chatted for two hours, bonding over the ridiculousness of lefties,” he writes.
For others, maybe it’s just plain selfishness. For a certain group of LGBT+ people, namely wealthy white gay men,
If that’s the case, then coming out as a conservative should be difficult. You should feel a sense of shame at turning your backs on those who want the same freedoms we have.
