The first teaser trailer for a new documentary film about Alexander McQueen has been released.

McQueen is set to take an intimate look at the life and work of the late British fashion designer, who tragically took his own life in February 2010 at the age of 40.

Co-directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the film – which will have its world premiere in London in June – includes never-before-seen home movies, audio tapes and “behind-the-scenes” footage shot throughout Lewisham-born McQueen’s glittering career.

McQueen also features deeply personal interviews from the fashion icon’s close family, friends and collaborators, as well as original cinematic material which dramatises his life.

A synopsis reads: “As a self-described ‘unremarkable’ working-class boy from East London, [McQueen] harnessed his demons and went on to become a global one-man fashion brand and one of the most iconic artists of the century.

“He was a punk rebel, celebrated for overturning the silver-spoon world of Paris haute couture and ushering in the heady, revolutionary era of ‘Cool Britannia,’ as well as provoking and subverting the fashion industry in ways that often caused controversy and scandal.”

The movie will receive it’s world premiere on Thursday 7 June at London’s Picturehouse Central, where a special Q&A will be held with the designers close friend and first assistant designer Sebastian Pons and Detmar Blow, friend and husband of Lee’s mentor and muse, the late Isabella Blow.
