Lets talk about gay sex, drugs and spirits

By Attitude Magazine

This Thursday 3rd December, Let’s Talk About Gay Sex & Drugs has a special World AIDS Day event, with a theme of ‘spirits’ within the gay community.

As always, the theme can be interpreted however people want: speak about your relationship to vodka, your own spirituality, or people you might have lost. Everybody who wants to speak gets five minutes, and nobody gets more than five minutes. All welcome, whether to speak or listen.

And they have an absolutely fabulous lineup of featured speakers, and films, on the night:

TOM KNIGHT, HIV activist and writer for Gay Times.

Tom

Tom Knight is a journalist, producer, HIV and LGBT campaigner. Also the producer of Pride in London and most recently he has been setting up a national peer support network for people newly diagnosed HIV+. His recent work has taken him to the House of Commons talking about the stigma around HIV.

LEON LOPEZ, delivering his short documentary made upon Let’s Talk About Gay Sex & Drugs

Leon

Actor/director Leon set up Brown Boy Productions in 2012 to showcase undiscovered talent through the medium of short fim. Three years later, they have just released their first feature film ‘Soft Lad’ and we were honoured to have them film the last event of Let’s Talk – and we will be showing the results tonight!

SHOKTI LOVESTAR, Radical Faerie

Shokti

Shokti met the spirit world and transformed from atheist to tantric shaman while facing death from AIDS in the 1990s, and is now an activist, writer and radical faerie. He came to see all his searching for highs via dancing, drugs and sex as rooted in a spiritual urge to discover and know the Self. He has studied the world’s mystical and spiritual teachings and assists others to make the transition to a post-religious, spiritually-connected life: organising gatherings, community rituals, drum circles and sacred sex parties.

ALEXIS GREGORY, playwright, reading from his play ‘Bright Skin Light’

Alexis

Alexis Gregory is an actor and playwright. His plays include ‘Slap’ (Channel 4 and Theatre Royal Stratford East) and ‘Safe’ (Soho Theatre in association with The Albert Kennedy Trust and Pride in London Arts Festival). Alexis will joined by David Meyer to read from his play ‘Bright Skin Light’ which examines the early AIDS crisis in 1980’s London.

JOHN HOGGETT, spoken word poet

John Hoggett

John Hoggett is a Performance Poet, Pinko Commie Queer, Lazy Anarchist and Minor Slut. His delicios lyrics describe sexual adventures of the slightly lost in gripping images of romance and sluttiness.

MATTHEW HODSON & STEWART WHO? presenting a short scene on chemsex and the history of the AIDS epidemic from gay play The Clinic.

Hodson

Plus a screening of a hot new SHORT FILM exploring the world of chemsex that everybody is talking about right now.

Let’s Talk About Gay Sex & Drugs – Spirits is on Thursday 3rd December at Ku Klub, 30 Lisle Street, WC2H 7BA, from 6.30pm. All welcome, free entry.
