LC:M DAY 4 Powered by Renault
Day 4 and our final trip in the Renault for London Collection: Men’s
E. Tautz carried on the military motif through all the days at LC:M – there were utility oversized pockets, big coats and tones of grey and scratchy checks walking down the catwalk. Wider, looser trousers and fairlisle knits and the muted palette gave the collection an elegant 30s feeling to the show .
Paul Smith put on a spectacular yet simple display for their presentation with the concept of ‘A Suit To Travel In.’ The tailoring used in the presentation were made from a quick recovery crease resistant cloth (water repellent too) so it’s perfect to move in, which is exactly what was going on- Olympic medal winning athlete Max Whitlock and artists from the National Centre for Circus Arts performed seemingly impossible feats in their suits, directed by the former head of movement of the Royal Shakespeare company, Struan Leslie. The team created human towers, three high, and many an acrobatic tricks on the stark set. It was simple, yet strong- with only the suits and the movement involved.
Next we headed to Tom Ford HQ to see Mr Ford himself. We usually gather in a ‘no phones allowed’ zone to view the collection in secret. Tom has recently said that ‘customers don’t care any more about reviews or hard-copy publications. They care what picture Rihanna just Instagrammed while she’s naked in bed, what new shoes she has on, how she’s talking about them. That’s what they respond to.’ And so Tom is giving social media a try- and if you’re going to take pictures of his collection, Mr Ford is going to make sure you take them correctly. We arrived to a huge set, with gigantic lights, where we snapped away as Tom Ford talked us through Autumn Winter for his eponymous label. We saw both the collection’s tailoring more casual wear. We were treated to all the key pieces- ’30 looks in 30 seconds’ he purred. There were plenty of gorgeous casual pieces- from shearling jackets to denim as well as almost optical illusion black and metallic suits.
The Afternoon was filled with glitter, whether it was for the finale at Burberry Prorsum as Claire Maguire sang, or the shiny stuff on the Nike trainers at Katie Eary’s show. Nasir Mazhar provided iridescent sportswear in red and blue hues in his sports luxe collection.
We made some time for tailoring on day 4. We started with Chester Barrie, displaying candy cane striped shirts, and gorgeous fabrics in bottle greens right through to the ultra traditional tailcoats and bow ties. As we looked over the Deco inspired collection, handsome models sauntered through the crowd, drink in hand, chatting away it was a very sophisticated, good looking affair indeed. Tiger Of Sweden mixed up the suiting with panelled bombers and leather, quilting and sporty touches- such as blue an pink hoodies and cropped jogging bottoms to inject a great modern feel. This balanced out with the suiting nicely giving yet more wearable outfits.

And so the fashion team says goodbye to our lovely golden Renault that helped us through the tight show schedule, sheltered us from the rain and made us on time and dry for all our fancy fashion things.
