Gareth Thomas: ‘Saying “I’m gay” was harder than tackling Jonah Lomu’

In recent weeks we’ve seen two notable rugby players come out in the form of league player Keegan Hirst and sevens star Sam Stanley, but Britain’s first-ever player to come out publicly, Gareth Thomas, now reveals that saying he was gay was harder than tackling hulking New Zealand squad superstar Jonah Lomu.
Speaking ahead of the Rugby World Cup kick-off on Friday, the former Welsh international has discussed his new autobiography, Proud, the stuggles he faced a closeted gay player, and his picks for the World Cup with Franch outlet Le Parisien. Watch the interview below:
