Cher hits back at critic who mocks ‘Dressed to Kill’ show
By Nick Levine
Cher has responded to a Canadian music critic who mocked her recent Toronto show – by making him the subject of one of her legendary tweets.
Ben Rayner, the Toronto Star‘s Pop Music Critic, actually awarded Cher’s ‘Dressed to Kill Tour’ gig on Monday night (April 7) three stars out of a possible four, writing that the pop diva “can still hold it down”.
However, passages of his review were not entirely complimentary.
“She even had the gall to run a reel of her acceptance speeches at past Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe ceremonies. Clearly, Cher is long past the point of ‘humble brag’,” Rayner writes in his review.
Meanwhile, his live-tweeting spree while the gig was actually happening was perhaps somewhat sarcastic and included digs at the singer’s appearance and “elaborate production”.
Cher has apparently since discovered his review and/or his tweets, and decided to respond in her own inimitable fashion.
Meanwhile, Cher has also responded to a fan who claimed one of her recent shows had “an underlying tone of sad”.
“Couldnt be farther from the truth..I see it as Celebration (ghost emoji),” Cher wrote on Twitter. “It’s my last tour, but I only feel emotional at The Very LAST BOW !”
Cher’s ‘Dressed to Kill Tour’ began last month (March) and is crossing North America until mid-July. At present, no UK and Ireland dates have been added to the schedule.
