AIDS epidemic survivors share their stories with Attitude

Tim, was 30 years old when diagnosed with HIV. Now, 51 and London-based, He’ll never forget the HIV epidemic of the 80s and 90s back home in the States. The 67th Academy Awards night in 1995 will always be crucial point in his life. That was when his partner of six years, Carlos, died of Aids-related illness. He was diagnosed shortly after.
Although two decades have passed, Tim clearly remembers what such a diagnosis meant for the receiver back then: It was a countdown, a death sentence. Being surrounded by continuous deaths caused by the diseases, not much hope was left.
21 years later, Tim considers himself lucky to have survived and to be living a healthy life. Despite a slight sense of guilt for surviving, while his loved ones have passed away, Tim is “still here, carrying the torch for them, living for them.”
