Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has been unveiled as the new face of Prada.

The American model and actress, 22, is continuing to blaze a trail for transgender people in fashion as she fronts the brand’s latest campaign featuring its famous Galleria Bag.

Hunter, who has starred as troubled teen Jules in HBO’s acclaimed drama Euphoria since 2019, has previously modelled for the likes of Mugler, Calvin Klein and Vera Wang – and the New Jersey-born star continues her high-fashion ascendancy in Prada’s newly-released campaign film.

According to the Milanese fashion house, the short film – shot by queer director Xavier Dolan – is “a reflection of the obsession of our age for shifting, endlessly, from idea to idea, […] a sequence of micro-narratives, like captured thoughts, loves, emotions or dreams, in constant dialogue with one another.”

A statement from Prada continues: “Embracing the codes and tropes inherent to the world of fashion, the film has a purity, a naivety, joy.

“Schafer is our heroine — a romantic, a young girl imagining her place within her different fantasies.”

Schafer, who is expected to reprise her role as Jules in the second season of Euphoria – currently in production after a length pandemic-releated delay – has previously spoken proudly about her status as a trans person in the often heteronormative modelling world.

Speaking on North Carolina public radio in 2017 before turning her hand to acting, Hunter said: “I do like people to know that I’m not a cis girl because that’s not something that I am or feel like I am.

“I’m proud to be a trans person.”
