Supermodel Alex Consani made history at the Met Gala 2026 on 4 May, becoming the first trans woman to serve on the host committee of fashion’s most prestigious night of the year.
Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour served as this year’s co-chairs.
Walking up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, she described the milestone during the event to Vogue’s livestream as “a big moment”.

As the opening night of The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, “Costume Art,” the dress code “Fashion Is Art” saw guests embracing artistic interpretations of fashion.
Consani arrived on the red carpet wearing a custom white faille cape by Gucci. She later revealed a nude tulle corseted bustier underneath, paired with a voluminous feathered skirt and a sweeping train.
Inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s 15th-century masterpiece Primavera, Consani spoke about the collaboration with creative director Demna.
“At the fitting for his first show, we had a conversation about what I wanted, and he was really, really receptive to making it happen,” she said.

“I instantly felt like a different bitch – I feel like I’m Natalie Portman, a little mix of Tilda Swinton. I think that there’s just an actress energy that it puts me in.”
Standing at a statuesque 6ft, Consani made her high-fashion runway debut in 2021, walking for Tom Ford, marking seven years in the industry.
Speaking at the Met Gala, the supermodel described her support system at home: “I have a lot of support at home. I have a lot of support from my friends, who I’ve made an important part of my life.”

“That’s what it’s about, making sure you surround yourself with people that love you,” Consani continued.
In her host committee announcement interview with Vogue, Consani described the unique significance of her body as a trans woman.
The 22-year-old said: “I think, for me, the body obviously means something very specific to me as a trans woman.

“I think that it has always kind of been a point of conversation for others, but I think to reclaim that, and really find what makes me feel beautiful as an individual, and makes me feel supported and loved, is quite, quite special.
Describing her love for modelling, she said: “For me, it means expressing things and showing the strength that I have in my body, showing the muscles that I have, showing the ass that I’m hopefully going to have on the Met Gala day.”
Consani made her Met Gala debut in 2025, dressed by Swarovski, after making history as the first trans model to win the Fashion Award for Model of the Year in 2024.
