Watch: Transgender woman refused entry to ladies’ toilet in a pub in England

By Rhys Matthews

The Forester’s Arms in Ramsgate has strict rules in regards to who is allowed to use which toilets as they are concerned with losing business.

This video shows bar staff refusing to allow a trans woman access to the ladies toilets on the apparent orders of their boss. Joanna states that she needs to use the toilet and the barmaid replies by telling her “I can’t let you in. You know I can’t.”

According to GayStarNews.com, Joanna presented ID to the barmaid, including her driver’s license and a credit card which clearly identify Joanna as legally female.

The video concludes with Joanna commenting: “So I can’t go for a wee unless I go in the men’s?” with the barmaid replying “I can’t… it’s not my rule.”

Their rules on who can use which toilets appear to contravene the UK’s Equality act. According to LawCentres.org.uk, in 2014 a transgender woman won her claim for transgender discrimination against a pub which “had refused to allow her to use the ladies lavatories.”

The pub’s Facebook page has taken a hit lately, getting more that 40 single star reviews today, with reviewers condemning owners for their actions.
