Watch gay US State Senator propose to boyfriend live on TV
By Josh Haggis
A US State Senator proposed to his boyfriend during a live TV appearance earlier this week.
Kelvin Atkinson, a member of Nevada’s State Senate, publicly came out as gay during a same-sex marriage debate held in April last year.
Atkinson proposed to his long-term boyfriend, Sherwood Howard, live on television on Tuesday (October 7) just two days before Nevada officially lifted its ban on same-sex marriage on Thursday (October 11).
“Woody, I know it has been six years,” Kelvin told his boyfriend on air.
“They haven’t always been great,” he continued, “but we have been great partners and as a lot of you know in a lot of my political work [you are] the one person that I trust the most, to be there with me, to be there for me, to be that confidant, to be my friend and my partner, so I’m saying it in front of everybody, will you marry me?”
