John Barrowman was seen kissing a man during the opening ceremony of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games tonight (July 23).

Early on in the ceremony, which was watched by an estimated one billion viewers worldwide, the out gay actor/TV presenter bounded up to man in a kilt, planted a kiss on his lips and then skipped off with him hand-in-hand.

Meanwhile, a cry of “Here’s to equality in Scotland!” was heard in the background and party poppers were set off by backing dancers. Same-sex marriage was legalised in Scotland in February and the first gay and lesbian marriages north of the border are expected to take place before the end of the year.

Homosexuality is illegal in 42 of the 53 nations competing in the Commonwealth Games. Some of the participating nations, most notably Uganda, Brunei and Jamaica, have become especially notorious for their extreme anti-gay laws in recent years.

A Pride House has been set up at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to welcome LGBT athletes and fans and provide support – click here to find out more.
