Joan Rivers is now “resting comfortably” in hospital after her health scare yesterday (August 28), her daughter has confirmed.

According to TMZ, the 81-year-old comedian was undergoing a procedure on her vocal cords yesterday when she stopped breathing  and was rushed to the emergency ward at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. At the time, she was said to be “in critical condition”.

Reports followed in which Rivers’ status was upgraded to “stable but critical” – and her daughter, Melissa Rivers, has now given an update on her mother’s condition to the press.

Melissa Rivers said in a statement earlier today (August 29): “We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She is resting comfortably and is with our family.”

Rivers turned 81 on June 8. She has hosted weekly show Fashion Police on US showbiz network E! since 2010 and is due to embark on a stand-up tour of the UK this October.
