UKIP candidate: ‘A homosexual donkey raped my horse’
By Josh Haggis
A UKIP candidate has made the bizarre claim that a “homosexual donkey” tried to “rape” his horse.
John Rees-Evans, the 2015 candidate for Cardiff South and Penarth , made the controversial remark during an interview outside a campaign office in Merthyr Tydfil this week.
In response to a question about a another UKIP party member who argued that “some homosexuals prefer sex with animals,” Evans said: “Actually I’ve witnessed that. I was personally quite amazed. I’ve got a horse and it was in the fields.”
“And a donkey came up, my horse is a stallion, and the donkey came up, and I’m afraid tried to rape my horse,” he added.
Responding to the criticism he received for the comments, Evans has told The Independent that although he “doesn’t understand” gay people, UKIP are a “libertarian party” at heart.
“My own background is quite traditional. For me, any kind of non-conventional relationship that people have, I would say I don’t really understand the attraction, but we are a libertarian party,” he explained. “People can do pretty much anything they like in the privacy of their own homes as long as it doesn’t affect other people.”
