Tom Daley to carry Queen’s Baton for Commonwealth Games
By Sam Rigby
Tom Daley will be the first to carry the Queen’s Baton when it touches down in the UK ahead of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The diver will accept the baton at St Aubin’s harbour in Jersey on Sunday (May 11) as it begins the home leg of a 288-day international tour, STV News reports.
The baton’s journey began at Buckingham Palace last October, and will tour the country in the lead up to the opening ceremony in Glasgow on July 23.
Daley said: “I’ve followed the baton’s journey around the world since it began last October, so it’s very exciting to be in Jersey as it begins the home nations leg.
“This is the time for everyone to get behind their home teams as the baton’s arrival reminds us that the Games are just around the corner. I’m counting down the days.”
Daley will be joined by 23-year-old Team Jersey medal hopeful and British indoor championship shot-putter Zane Duquemin.
