Tom Daley pays tribute to his father on seventh anniversary of his death

Robert Daley lost his battle to cancer back in 2011

Tom Daley has paid tribute to his late father in a sweet Instagram post.

The Olympic diver – who is expecting his first child with his husband Dustin Lance Black – took to Instagram to share a picture of his late father, Robert, on the seventh anniversary of his death.

On his post – which sees his dad playing in the bath with the young diver – Daley wrote: “7 years you’ve been gone.

“You were the best Dad. I hope to be the best dad to our future son.”

Robert lost his battle to cancer back in 2011 when he was just 40 after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2006.

He gave up his electrician’s business to follow his son to events around the world and watched his then 15-year-old son become Britain’s first individual diving world champion.

Although he had 80 per cent of the brain tumour removed in 2006, he had been in remission until a routine health check in 2010 revealed the tumour had returned.
