Tanzanian police have one week to catch ‘every homosexual’, says governor

Paul Makonda has warned people to report any LGBT person to a police officer

Police in Tanzania have one week to catch ‘every homosexual’, according to the governor.

Paul Makonda, the governor of the economic capital Dar es Saleem, launched the horrific homophobic attack on Monday (October 29) and is encouraging all citizens to report LGBT people to the police.

He warned that anyone caught will be sent to prison for 30 years and while speaking to reporters, he said: “I have information about the presence of many homosexuals in our province.

“If you know of a homosexual, you must report them to a police officer. No one can escape.

“Give me their names. My team will have them all by next Monday.”

He went on to say that he already has a list of around 100 names of LGBT people and said he would prefer to anger the community than to God.
