Students given homophobic pamphlets by school bus drivers as ‘early Christmas presents’

By Fabio Crispim

Students from an Australian school were given strange Christmas gifts by their school bus drivers this week.

The ‘gifts’ actually turned out to be homophobic pamphlets directed at parents of the students.

According to the Huffington Post, up to 10 bus drivers were thought to be involved with handing out homophobic pamphlets to students from the Kyabram P-12 College in Melbourne.

The pamphlets were given out by the Marriage Alliance who reportedly “educates Australians about the consequences of same-sex marriage.”

The pamphlets called on parents to oppose same-sex marriage and attacked Australia’s Safe Schools Coalition, which supports LGBT youth in schools.

The pamphlet also claimed that “Changing the marriage laws will impact your family.”

According to a student, an “older looking person” came onto the bus and instructed the driver to hand the ‘presents’ out to the students.

The envelopes were wrapped in gold paper and included a not on the front which read, “To the wonderful people who care for me everyday! Merry Christmas!”

College principal Stuart Bott told parents that the pamphlet wasn’t representative of the school’s position on same-sex marriage. He then revealed that a “member of the community” had given the pamphlets to bus drivers for distribution.

Bott added that since the incident, he has been busy answering calls from unhappy parents.

“We are an inclusive school, and we are working with families to say that won’t happen again.”

The school claim they already promote LGBT equality.
