Russian lawmaker wants to ban Facebook over Pride profile pictures

Apparently not content with trying to get fantasy filth-fest Game of Thrones pulled from the airwaves, anti-gay Russian lawmaker Vitaly Milonov has set his sights on an even bigger target: Facebook.
The architect of St Petersburg’s anti-gay propaganda law has called for the social networking site to be shut down in Russia after it introduced it;s new ‘Celebrate Pride’ filter feature over the week, the Express Tribune reports.
In recent days users have seen their newsfeeds flooded with special rainbow-clad profile pictures designed to celebrate Pride and the US Supreme Court’s historic ruling on Friday (June 26) legalising same-sex marriage across all 50 US states.
Milonov told Russia radio on Saturday that Facebook was guilty of promoting homosexuality to the platform’s underage users.
“It is a crude violation of Russian legislation. Facebook has no age limits, it is impossible to control how many minors are there,” he said.
“That is why it would be completely normal to pull the plug on Facebook in Russia.”
Milonov said he would appeal to Roskomnadzor – Russia’s equivalent of Ofcom – and failing that he would go directly to Russian security service the FSB or President Vladimir Putin himself.
“I would call on thousands of people and we will write to the FSB and Putin,” he explained.
“Any normal person would not leave this unnoticed. If Roskomnadzor does then they play on the side of those who wish harm to our homeland.”
Thanks Vitaly. We hope you like yours.
