RBS training staff to ‘not assume customers are straight’

By Josh Haggis

The Royal Bank of Scotland is training their staff to help better serve LGBT customers.

The bank, which is partially owned by the UK government, is planning to offer “Mx” as a gender-neutral alternative to “Mr,” “Mrs” and “Ms” in a move that it hopes will signal its support for the LGBT community, reports Gay Star News Business.

The groundbreaking plans, which also involve staff not assuming customers are heterosexual, were announced by the bank’s Head of Inclusion, Marjorie Strachan, during her speech at the British LGBT Awards last weekend.

Although not implemented fully yet, branch staff are currently undergoing training to help deliver on Strachan’s promises.
