The fashion guru sometimes pretends he isn't married

Queer Eye’s Tan France has revealed he sometimes hides his sexuality when travelling abroad.

Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot couldn’t be more popular right now and fashion guru Tan France has opened up about travelling as a gay married man.

In a new interview with Conde Nast Traveler, the reality TV star and fashion guru revealed he sometimes has to pretend he isn’t married when travelling abroad.

He said: “As a gay man, there are certain places that I avoid. When I go to China, I lie and pretend I’m not married, which is really sad – I leave my ring at home.

“But I’m not willing to risk my safety in a country that could cause me no end of problems or where it’s illegal to be gay. I’m very aware of the places I can travel to safely and where I cannot.”

When asked if he would return to Pakistan following the show’s broadcast, France stated he wouldn’t.

He said: “I don’t know if it’s illegal to be gay or they just turn a blind eye, but I wouldn’t risk it. The exposure the show has and the fact that I’m very open about who I am makes it a security risk. But I do love Pakistan, and I went many, many times before the show.”

France also revealed he didn’t know where the show would be filming for the next season of Queer Eye.

“We actually don’t know,” he explained. “Netflix is so tight about this stuff but there’s a good reason why they don’t tell us: none of us can keep a secret.

“They keep telling us, ‘You can’t say this’ and then the next week it comes out that one of us has told someone, and they can’t figure out which one of us it was. However, they do say that at the end of next month we’ll have a definitive answer.”
