Pulse nightclub survivors recognised in the OUT100 list

The survivors of June’s terrorist attack on Pulse Nightclub were honoured among the great and good of the LGBT community in Out Magazine’s annual Out100 this week.
The Out100 celebrates successful and inspiring people from across the LGBT community. This year, a number of Pulse nightclub survivors were brought together for a photoshoot to celebrate their survival against one of most lethal gun-related attacks in American history.
One survivor, Adrian Lopez commented on the unity and solidarity those caught up with in the violence now share: “LGBT people always stand together for each other,” he said.
“But now we’re just stuck together, you know?”
Another survivor, Tony Marrero, added: “We’re all looking out for each other.”
“People will stop you on the street and make sure you’re OK. We don’t have to wait for another tragedy to keep this going.”
Omar Mateen’s attack on Pulse nightclub left 49 people dead and many more injured. Across the world, tributes sprung up in solidarity with the LGBT community, with national monuments lit up in the colours of the Pride flag. Millions of dollars were raised for families of victims, as well as survivors, and a number of local hospitals waived any medical costs incurred.
