Prince George to meet gay parents in New Zealand

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will introduce Prince George to a group of parents, including a gay couple, as part of their next engagement in New Zealand.

The young royals are currently on tour in the country as part of their first official trip since the Prince’s birth last July.

On Wednesday afternoon (April 9) they will take Prince George to his first major public engagement at a playgroup in Wellington’s Government House, which is the home of the Governor-General.

There he will meet ten sets of recent parents, who all welcomed children within weeks of his birth on July 22, 2013, the Telegraph reports.

Gay parents Jared and Ryan Mullen and their daughter Isabella will be among those meeting the Prince.

The playgroup has been organised by parent support organisation Plunket.

Tristine Clark, New Zealand president of Plunket, said: “The parents are a spread of all the communities in New Zealand, including Maoris, Samoans, people of Chinese descent and gay couples. This is a very multi-cultural country and we wanted the Duke and Duchess to meet people from all backgrounds.”
