Paris Lees signs exclusive gay press deal with ‘Attitude’
By Nick Levine
has signed an exclusive gay press multi-platform deal with firebrand journalist Paris Lees.
The rising star will be joining Attitude as Editor-At-Large from March 1. Every month she will write a column for the print magazine, an opinion piece for attitude.co.uk and an exclusive tablet/app-only feature ‘The Paris Lees Interview’.
In 2013, Paris was named the Number One most influential LGBT person in the UK by the Independent on Sunday’s Pink List. She made history last October (2013) as the first transgender person to appear as a panellist on BBC1’s Question Time, where she won plaudits from everyone from John Prescott to Boy George.
Her writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, the New Statesman, The Independent and Vice.com. She is also the first trans presenter on Channel 4 and BBC Radio 1.
Paris Lees says: “Would it be cheesy to say I’m delighted to be joining the Attitude team? Well I am. De. Fucking. Lighted. Queer culture has always been an exciting, creative and dynamic arena for me to explore my evolution from skinny gay boy to woman-on-a-mission and I couldn’t be more pleased to be joining such a talented body of writers, stylists and photographers. The only thing better than reading a magazine like this is writing it. If I wasn’t so super cool, I’d tell you I don’t remember the last time I was so excited about a new job. I’m buzzing.”
Attitude‘s Editor Matthew Todd adds: “As well as being a valuable and needed advocate for the trans community, Paris is one of the most exciting, energised and provocative writers of her generation and as we mark our 20th birthday I’m thrilled to have her join the team at Attitude.”
Attitude marks Paris’ arrival with an eight-page feature in the Style issue, out February 28, shot by Neil Dawson and styled by Elauan Lee. Paris begins her monthly column in Attitude’s 20th birthday issue, out March 27.
