Nick Jonas rescues Pittsburgh Pride after Iggy Azalea exit

By Will Stroude

Oh Nick Jonas, is there anything you won’t do in the name of the gays? Well, apart from that one thing, obviously.

The 22-year-old Jealous singer has saved the day for Pittsburgh Pride-goers after volunteering to fill the headline space left after Iggy Azalea’s sudden departure from the event earlier this week.

Azalea had been scheduled to perform at this weekend’s event, but pulled out at the last minute on Tuesday (June 9) following a public backlash against her past use of homophobic and racist language.

The Aussie rapper apologized for her past language, saying that “as a young person, I used words I should not have.”

“I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed & I wish all my fans and friends participating in Pride the best of luck”, she added.

On hearing the news, Jonas contacted the event’s organisers personally and offered his services for the day.

“When I heard about the difficult position Pittsburgh Pride was in just days before their event, I knew I had to find a way to help,” Jonas said in a statement. “I’m excited to do what I can to support the LGBT community in Pittsburgh, and I look forward to seeing you this Saturday as we celebrate together.”

Gary Van Horn, president of the Delta Foundation, which organises Pittsburgh Pride, said: “Nick had heard about Pittsburgh Pride in the media and called us on Tuesday and said he would like to come and perform.

“He has been a supporter of the LGBT community, and he wanted to make sure that the community and Pittsburgh had a Pride event that they could be proud of.”

Meanwhile, Jonas recently teased  that there’s a “big surprise” in store regarding his gay Kingdom character Nate Kulina in the show’s upcoming second season – click here to find out more.
