Martina Navratilova proposes to girlfriend at US Open

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova and her partner Julia Lemigova have become engaged.

Eighteen-time Grand Slam champion Navratilova, 57, proposed to longterm girlfriend Lemigova, 42, at the US Open in New York yesterday (September 6) in a moment that was captured on the court’s big screen, reports Yahoo.

“I have been waiting for the right time to ask Julia to marry me,” Navratilova told the packed stadium after proposing. “I thought this was the right place and the right time to pop the question and thankfully I got a ‘yes’.”

The retired champion later took to Twitter to thank fans for their support – see her tweet below.
