A man who has protested against LGBTQ-inclusive lessons at primary schools in Birmingham has said the LGBTQ community are ‘intolerant’ towards the parents’ religious beliefs.
Shakeel Afsar is leading the campaign against Anderton Park Primary School in Birmingham and joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning today (May 22) and hit out against the LGBTQ community claiming they are being disrespectful to parents with religious beliefs.
While speaking on the ITV breakfast show, Afsar – who ironically has no children at the school – said: “Parents feel that at a primary school age a child is not at an age to understand such complex relationships such as LGBTQ, or even some heterosexual relationships, or even about Islam or religion and stuff.
“Parents feel that in primary school we should be teaching our children about humanity, respect for humanity.
“Parents at the school shouldn’t feel like it’s over promoting one narrative and not the other.
“We should try and make it transparent.
“The parents are feeling that the LGBTQ community are becoming intolerant towards them and their religious beliefs.
“What the parents have been made to look like we’re some homophobic people and we have no intolerance towards differences when we have co-existed with this community.”
He was joined with activist Melissa Thompson who slammed his stance and said it is damaging to the community.
She said: “If you’ve read any of the literature or any of the books introduced to teach children about lots of different types of families, then you’ll realise it’s not a manual on how to be gay.”
