London’s rainbow crossing to return for equal marriage conversion date

London’s rainbow crossing will return on Wednesday (December 10) to celebrate the day same-sex couples can convert their civil partnerships into marriages.
The zebra crossing will be located in Trafalgar Square for one day only, between 7.30am and 7pm.
Same-sex marriage was legalised in England and Wales back in March, but existing civil partners have had to wait nine months to legally convert to marriage.
Martyn Loukes, Chair of Transport for London’s LGBT+ Network, said: “Once again we’re showing our support for our LGBT customers, families and staff in London, and we would love couples to come down and have their picture taken to celebrate this momentous event.
“I’ll be converting my civil partnership on the day, and will be marking the occasion by going to Trafalgar Square with my husband to have our picture taken on the crossing.”
The rainbow crossing was first set up in London to coincide with this year’s Pride festival in June. It returned in September outside Arsenal underground station to support the ongoing campaign to stamp homophobia out of sport.
