Kim Davis says it’s been a ‘joy’ to fight same-sex marriage
US County Clerk Kim Davis has told an American radio host she couldn’t put her “conscience on anybody else” and that it has been a “joy” to fight gay marriage in the United States.
Speaking to American Family Radio host Sandy Rio on Ring Wing Watch last Friday (January 22), the controversial figure also reaffirmed her position that God had selected her to fight marriage equality, which was legislated across the United States by the Supreme Court last June.
“I had weighed the cost for myself, I couldn’t put my conscience on anybody else,” she said.
Host Rios observed during the interview it was “interesting” how God had “chosen” Davis to do his bidding.
“[You’re] not a Sunday school teacher, not a Republican, not the standard – this is like God, this is so like God, so he chose you,” she said.
Davis responded that it was “a joy” to “make a stand and to defend my God’s word, the infallible word of God.”
“You were chosen, Kim,” said Rios.
“I know that. God picked you, plucked you out.”
Earlier this month, Davis defended her actions once again, after attending US President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address.
“He [Obama] had made the statement that everybody was free to marry who they love, and of course that’s the statement that I stood against, and it was not, for me,” she said at the time.
“It never was a gay or lesbian issue, it was about standing up for the word of God. God had defined marriage from the very beginning as being between one man and one woman, and that’s what I stood for.”
