Katie Hopkins calls Tom Daley’s coming out video ‘lame’
By Josh Haggis
Provocative columnist Katie Hopkins has branded Tom Daley’s coming out video “lame”.
The Olympic diver made a low-key YouTube video last December in which he revealed he is in a relationship with a man, whom we now know to be Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.
Sharing her views on the video with Varsity, the notoriously outspoken Hopkins said: “It was really lame… we all knew he was gay. People love Tom Daley and the people who watch divers [are the] kind of the people who like to read Women’s Weekly.”
When asked how she would feel if her own son came out as gay, Hopkins replied: “Oh, I’m hoping he is… because he likes skipping, he likes hairdressing. When I’m fifty and I’ve got a gay son, I’m totally sorted. [He’ll say] ‘Mom your hairdo is awful, you have hair under your chin…”
She then added: “I think he might be [gay] – I mean, he’s quite good-looking, like my girls aren’t good-looking but he totally is.”
