Harry Potter, Madonna and Mental Health: An Evening with Matthew Todd

By Attitude Magazine

Our outgoing Attitude editor, Matthew Todd, travels around the UK this week and next to discuss his experience of 20 years of working at Attitude, eight years of editing it and issues surrounding his critically acclaimed new call-to-arms book Straight Jacket: How to be Gay and Happy.

Matthew will be visiting Waterstones branches in Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Brighton and Leeds where he’ll be discussing his 8 years of editing the UK’s best-selling gay magazine including the moments that were most significant to him.

These include how he won the trust of Madonna, how he had to fight to get David Cameron to pose for the cover of Attitude, how attitude’s shoot with Daniel Radcliffe made him realise he had a problem and how he was called upon to advise a closeted sports star how to potentially come out of the closet. He’ll also be discussing Attitude’s current historic cover shoot with Prince William.

Matthew will be signing copies and talking about why he wrote his new book Straight Jacket, which the newspaper calls ‘essential’ and Ireland’s GCN news calls ‘brilliant’. In Straight Jacket he discusses his own experience of mental health issues arising from growing up in the closet and most importantly how he began to overcome them.
