Gus Kenworthy to headline Democratic National Committee’s LGBTQ gala

Kenworthy has been using his platform to take a stand against the Trump administration

Olympian Gus Kenworthy is set to headline the Democrats Gala.

The gay athlete has been announced as a speaker at the event just days after he and fellow Olympian Adam Rippon boycotted the White House reception for Winter Olympians.

Both Rippon and Kenworthy have been using their platforms to criticise the Trump administration, and it seems Kenworthy is about to get even more political.

According to The Hill, the 26 year old will headline the Democratic National Committee’s annual LGBTQ gala on June 25. Kenworthy will kick-off the event with DNC donors and activists ahead of the midterm election.

Speaking about the event, Kenworthy said: “I couldn’t be more excited to join the DNC at their LGBTQ Gala this Pride season.

“Over the last year, the Trump-Pence administration has pushed our community to the sidelines, attacking us for who we are and who we love.

“It’s time we take a stand against this administration by electing representatives this upcoming November who actively support and believe in equality for everyone.”

Meanwhile, the freestyle skier made headlines for turning down his invite to the April 27 reception for Winter Olympians and later hit back at critics over his decision.
