Germany’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the death of Russian LGBTQ activist Yelena Grigorieva and called for a transparent and impartial investigation.
Yelena’s body was found in bushes near her home in St Petersburg on Sunday (July 21) according to the news website Fontanka.
She suffered from with multiple stab wounds and there were signs of strangulation.
Russian police have reportedly detained someone in connection to her murder but now, media outlets are reporting Yelena was a victim of a gay-hunting website.
And now, Christofer Burger, a spokesperson for Germany’s Foreign Ministry, has called for more information to be revealed about her death and whether it was caused because of her ‘commitment to LGBTQ rights’.
Burger told the Associated Press: “In particular, we expect it to be cleared up whether the killing of Ms Grigorieva was linked to her commitment to LGBTQ rights.”
