Gay US president by 2024, says Pennsylvania lawmaker

Pennsylvania lawmaker Brian Sims has predicted that the US will elect a gay president within the next ten years.

Sims – who is regarded as one of America’s most prominent gay lawmakers – said that the “current trend in American opinion” supports his theory.

Speaking to Tetu magazine, he said: “It doesn’t bother me that people label me as the gay elected representative of Pennsylvania. In 50 years, it won’t be an issue anymore.

“Looking at the current trend in the American opinion, we’ll have a gay president in 10 years.”

Sims said that although he is happy in his current role, he wouldn’t rule out a move into federal government in the future.

“If tomorrow the Senate need a proud, gay, feminist representative, I will go. Today, I’m where I want to to be,” he said.

He went on to describe Barack Obama as “one of the top 10 pro-LGBT activists in America”, adding that “no other president has done more” for the gay community.

“Did he always do it the way we wanted? No, but he’s done more than all the other presidents put together. He’s changed mentalities, particularly within the African-American community,” Sims concluded.
